"I
have used the Western Contour gel pad under a single-layer wool
saddle blanket, and the pad keeps the horse's back very cool and does not
slip. I've used the pad on three or four 12 to 14-mile rides in the
mountains, and each time my horse's back stayed cool and dried off
within about 5 minutes of removing the saddle. I have also used the same
pad and wool blanket combo to work a young horse that was not accustomed
to being ridden regularly. Her back also stays cool and dries quickly.

gel cushion is nice and light weight (for a gel pad) and the carrying
