Better than Foams!
Gel-Ride™ gel removes the shock and disperses the load better than foams because of the micro-oil droplets in the gel. These droplets deform with the elastopolymer as a load is applied, but they are non-compressible and so the pad never "bottoms out." There is always more shock absorption available with almost any level of load.

Foam pads (closed or open cell foams) are often stiff and will always "bottom out" since there is only highly compressible air in the foam. And foam will stiffen over time while the gel lasts virtually forever.
The egg drop test shows the difference between gel and foam. An egg dropped from a height of 17 feet onto a Gel-Ride™ will not break, but when dropped on a foam pad, the egg breaks. This is because when a load is applied to foam, the air bubbles in the foam compress. When all the air bubbles are compressed, there is a hard stop and the egg experiences the shock and breaks. Gel-Ride gel does not compress like this, there is always more shock absorption, so the egg does not break.
